The Journey to my First Paid Freelance Writing Job

So, I finally got my first paid writing job, yay!

Not that I had applied to multiple places for an opportunity to write.

I was too afraid to try, always second-guessing my abilities, feeling I am not qualified enough, being too worried about failure, rejection, and not writing up to the expected level of professionalism. I believe we have all been there. Funny enough, I got the first gig I ever pitched!

Why did I feel so unqualified?

I have no idea.

I have an advanced degree in a challenging field. I have written many examinations that will give you a sprained brain just thinking about them, and people have told me that my writing is decent. Yet, I still felt so inadequate. I am guessing not having English as my first language is a contributing factor and not having any degrees that validated my writing ability. Where I am from, a college degree is everything.

I am an avid reader. I do not discriminate; I love reading everything. Whether or not that is a good thing, I am not quite sure. But it did give me a good foundation for the use of words.
