In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS COVID -2, with daily reports of the resurgence in some locations, we need all the help we can get to battle the virus. We have seen the positive effects of the stay at home orders, social distancing, frequent handwashing, and the use of facemasks to prevent the spread of the virus. Since we cannot be on lockdown indefinitely, we need more effective ways of preventing the spread so that we can open safely.

A recent presentation on Vumedi by Eyal Melamed, an Israeli orthopedic surgeon with experience in the use of copper dressing in wound healing, raised the question of the use of copper in the fight against the virus via its incorporation into facemasks.

According to Melamed, the preliminary result obtained from a research study from an independent laboratory in the USA showed that when they applied fabric impregnated with cuprous oxide (Cu2O) on both surfaces of a facemask, 99.9% of SARS COVID -2 virus disappeared within 5 minutes and none remained after fifteen minutes. MedCu, a company in which he disclosed himself as a medical adviser and shareholder, sponsored the investigation.
